Year 7 Aspire Program – Enriching Potential, Aspiring for Excellence
We are delighted to introduce the inaugural Gisborne Secondary College Year 7 Aspire Program.
The Aspire Program is designed to extend and challenge students who demonstrate both a strong passion for learning and academic strengths across subject areas. Students who are well suited to this learning opportunity are highly motivated, independent learners who seek a greater depth and complexity of coursework. They are students who demonstrate curiosity about the world and who seek out knowledge and understanding.
Students placed in the Aspire Program will typically engage with the same subjects as their peers but at a more rigorous level and will stay together as a class of like-minded peers for the first two years of their secondary schooling. In this time, they will undertake a number of individual and collaborative enrichment projects that encourage higher-order thinking and investigation of complex real-world problems.
The program is aligned with opportunities such as VHAP (Victorian High Ability Program) and the Student Excellence Program and will support a pathway of subject acceleration at years 9-11 and early entrance into university-level subjects with CHES (Centre for Higher Education Studies).
An Enrichment IEP (Individual Education Plan) will be developed with the student and family at the start of the academic year.
Selection will be based on the student’s written submission, academic results, a reference from their primary school and optional parent input. The application form for the Year 7 Aspire Program is attached. Please return your completed application form, with attachments, to the Junior School Curriculum and Programs Leader at simone.moore@education.vic.gov.au by 17 October 2025.
